About the species Common toad

About the species

The largest native toad. In spring it migrates to water, where it breeds.

Where to find it by the water

Ponds, oxbows and wetlands in spring, otherwise forests, gardens and damp meadows.

What this means for anglers

In spring it travels to the water, even across roads. Its skin secretes an irritating secretion, so wash your hands after touching it. It is protected.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

In November the species is observed less than in the main season. Most records are from April.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

1,400 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
