About the species Great cormorant

About the species

A fish-eating bird. It nests at large reservoirs and in winter also stays on streams with open water.

Where to find it by the water

Large reservoirs, ponds and rivers. In winter it gathers at water that does not freeze. It rests on trees and stones with its wings spread.

What this means for anglers

It eats a lot of fish, so it is a problem for district managers. Flocks of cormorants betray places where small fish gather.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

V mesiaci november sa druh pozoruje bežne. Najviac záznamov je z mesiaca december.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

1,400 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
