About the species Eurasian beaver

About the species

A herbivore that changes the stream and its banks with dams and burrows. It is protected. It creates shallows and pools where fish and insects thrive.

Where to find it by the water

Rivers, streams and ponds with banks overgrown with willows and poplars. It is betrayed by gnawed trunks in a pencil shape, dams of branches and trodden paths to the water.

What this means for anglers

Dams can raise the water level and create new pools, while elsewhere the stream below them dries up. Beaver burrows in the banks can collapse, so step carefully on a bank with holes. Do not take apart dams and burrows; they are protected.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

In November the species is observed less than in the main season. Most records are from January.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

1,344 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
