About the species Mosquitoes

About the species

They breed in standing water, so they are worst around reservoirs, oxbow lakes and floodplain forests, especially at sunset.

Where to find it by the water

Still and slow waters, oxbows, floodplain forests and wetlands. There are the most of them in the warm, humid summer months.

What this means for anglers

When fishing in the evening and at night, expect them mainly near still water.

How to protect yourself

When fishing in the evening and at night, wear long sleeves and bring repellent and a net. Mosquito development is sped up by warmth and humidity after rain.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

In November the species is observed less than in the main season. Most records are from June.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

1,093 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
