About the species Caddisflies

About the species

Insects whose larvae, in many species, build protective cases from pebbles, sand or plants.

Where to find it by the water

The larvae live in streams, rivers and ponds on the bottom and among stones. Adults fly in the evening near the bank.

What this means for anglers

It is a common food of trout and grayling, so fly anglers imitate both the larvae and the adults with artificial flies.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

In November the species is observed less than in the main season. Most records are from June.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

1,273 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
