About the species Duck mussel

About the species

A large freshwater mussel that lives buried in the mud and sand of ponds and slow-flowing streams.

Where to find it by the water

Ponds, lakes and slow rivers with a fine bottom. Empty shells are found on the bank.

What this means for anglers

It cleans the water by filtering. Its larvae develop briefly on the gills of fish without serious harm. Leave live mussels in place.

When it is observed

V mesiaci november sa druh pozoruje bežne. Najviac záznamov je z mesiaca november.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.
