About the species White-throated dipper

About the species

A small bird that dives and runs along the bed of rapids after insect larvae. Nests by clean mountain streams.

Where to find it by the water

Fast, clean and cold mountain and foothill streams with stones. Nests on banks and under bridges.

What this means for anglers

It can be seen on mountain torrents where trout and grayling are fished. Its presence indicates clean water rich in insect larvae, and therefore in food for trout.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

In November the species is observed less than in the main season. Most records are from June.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

1,028 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
