About the species Raccoon

About the species

A predator from North America that has spread to Europe and is invasive. Near water it hunts for frogs, fish, crayfish, bird eggs and mollusks.

Where to find it by the water

Floodplain forests, pond and river banks, and city parks by the water. It is active mainly at night.

What this means for anglers

It can transmit parasites and rabies. Do not feed it, and after fishing do not leave food scraps or fish by the water.

When it is observed

Records by month in the areas around the fishing districts (GBIF).

In November the species is observed less than in the main season. Most records are from October.

The records come from people's observations and also reflect when and where observers move around. They are not a measurement of numbers or a guarantee of an encounter.

Where it was recorded

Fishing districts around which a record of this species exists. Sorted by number of records.

42 fishing districts in total, 36 shown. The number next to a fishing district is the number of records around it. Show on map
